Dark Spots

Dark spots (generally called hyperpigmentation) can be from a variety of causes, like run of the mill freckles, age spots, sun damage, melasma, or even marks left after trauma or breakouts. While the root causes for everyone are different, there are 14 separate pathways in our skin that lead to hyperpigmentation forming… Don’t worry, we know about addressing all of them so you don’t have to. Using topical skincare products, in conjunction with in-spa procedures, to target all these pathways is important and supports the efficacy and results of treatments we perform.

Below are treatments geared towards eliminating hyperpigmentation.

Lumecca IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Lumecca IPL is an amazing treatment for most hyperpigmentation, generally our clients see remarkable results after just one treatment, and a second or third treatment is to target more stubborn spots and provide more brightening.

We say Lumecca is good for most hyperpigmentation because it’s not appropriate for some melasma clients. If melasma is your main concern, or for more information about this, please schedule a consultation.

A typical treatment series of Lumecca IPL at our medspa in Thornton is one to three treatments, spaced one month apart.

Average appointment time: 30-90 minutes, depending on the treatment area

Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of chemical peels at our medspa in Thornton for a variety of effects: everything from a general “refresh” with almost no downtime, to a medical grade medium-depth peel that induces significant peeling and flaking. The general purpose of a chemical peel is to target the specific concern (hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, acne, etc.) with the acid or acids and to remove layers of skin and allow fresh, healthy skin to come to the surface.

Depending on the peel and the desired impact, a typical treatment series is three to nine treatments, spaced two to four weeks apart.

Average appointment time: 45 minutes

Microneedling

Microneedling is a procedure that uses tiny needles (less than a millimeter long) to induce micro-injuries to the skin. This creates a “controlled injury” with a predictable amount of inflammation. This injury and inflammation then uses your body’s own healing pathways to produce new, healthy skin. In treating hyperpigmentation specifically, microneedling works to break up the hyperpigmentation to make it easier to shed during the skin’s natural turnover process.

We use a topical numbing cream prior to microneedling, so the procedure is very comfortable.

A typical treatment series of microneedling is three to six treatments, spaced one month apart.

Average appointment time: Two hours

Acne can be incredibly frustrating to try to treat at home and it can be hard to know where to begin with so many different products and treatments out there. It is believed that acne is a genetically inherited condition. There are five main causes of acne: Excess oil production, hormones, bacteria, inflammation, and environmental factors. Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a ground-breaking treatment targeting multiple causes of skin laxity. Morpheus is microneedling with radiofrequency. Microneedling uses tiny needles to produce micro-injuries and stimulate your body to heal by growing new, healthy skin and collagen. Simultaneously, radiofrequency uses heat energy to melt fat and tighten loose skin.

The results are more youthful, plumper, and tighter skin.

We can also use this treatment to contour your neck and jawline by reducing fat cells while tightening the skin.

We use a topical numbing cream prior to Morpheus8, as well as nitrous oxide (laughing gas), so the procedure is comfortable.

A typical Morpheus8 series is three treatments, spaced one month apart.

Average appointment time: Two hours

Skin Laxity

Skin laxity is what the pros call skin that is loose, sagging or feeling the effects of gravity. Laxity can be from general aging, a big weight loss, genetics, or sun damage. When addressing skin laxity and aged skin there are two main causes: Structural causes and muscular causes.

Structural causes are usually related to natural bone loss from aging. Muscular causes are from collagen and fat pad loss or migration.

While we can’t grow you new bones (yet), we have treatment options to help enhance other structures in your face to create and sustain a youthful appearance.

Rosacea and Redness

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that typically affects the face and is characterized by persistent redness. It’s important to note, however, that not all redness is rosacea. If you think you might have rosacea, we always recommend that you see a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis, as some types of rosacea benefit from topical or oral medications. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, but it is thought that genetics, environmental triggers, and/or a heightened immune response play a role.

While there is no cure for rosacea, we do have a few tricks up our sleeves to help you address the redness, flushing, and visible blood vessels that are common with rosacea.  Many of these treatments are great for other causes of redness as well. For a more in-depth discussion and assessment we recommend scheduling a consultation.

Celluma Light Therapy

Some recent studies have shown promise in treating rosacea with Celluma Light Therapy. Celluma is an FDA cleared low level light therapy device that uses different wavelengths of LED light to target and treat different conditions. Multiple studies show the efficacy for pain management, acne, joint pain, swelling and inflammation, and arthritis pain and stiffness. Research is now focusing more on inflammatory skin conditions like rosacea.

Celluma helps improve rosacea symptoms of redness, flushing, inflammation, and dryness by impacting activity at the cellular level in your skin. Celluma offers potent anti-inflammatory benefits, as well as increasing the production of collagen, and supporting wound healing for a reduction in scarring. This all equates to less redness and inflammation and an overall smoother complexion. Many of our clients love Celluma as a relaxing, non-invasive treatment.

A typical treatment series for Celluma Light Therapy in our Thornon med spa is 2-3x per week for 8-12 weeks.

Each appointment lasts about 45 minutes. The Celluma light therapy is a 30-minute treatment, the appointment includes a cleanse of your skin, light therapy, then the application of appropriate skincare products and sunscreen. Coming to a Celluma appointment with freshly cleansed skin with nothing on it can speed up the appointment time.

Lumecca IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Lumecca IPL is a fantastic treatment for redness and rosacea at our Thornton medspa. IPL targets the hemoglobin (what makes blood vessels red) in blood vessels. The hemoglobin absorbs the light and generates heat which coagulates the blood vessels. This reduces their appearance and minimizes redness. Over the course of a series of treatments many, if not all, of the tiny broken capillaries at the surface of the skin can be completely eliminated.

Lumecca IPL also helps address flushing and persistent redness that is caused by dilated blood vessels. The heat generated during treatment helps constrict these vessels so they’re less visible in your skin.

Lumecca IPL can be a great treatment for achieving long term results because it addresses the redness at the source, rather than just covering it up or temporarily constricting blood vessels. Some of our clients need a maintenance session once or twice a year after the initial treatment series based on the severity of their rosacea.

A typical Lumecca IPL treatment series is three to five treatments, spaced one month apart.

Regular Facials and Topical Skincare Products

Having regular facials benefits all skin types, even rosacea. We understand that it can be frightening to have numerous skincare products applied to your skin when you are affected by rosacea, but rest assured we are well-versed in the proper treatments and products to help calm and soothe your skin while also helping you be smoother and brighter. We have skincare products that are specifically made for rosacea and other sensitive skin conditions, both in retail sizes that you use at home every day and that are used in the treatment room during a facial.

A monthly facial is a great option for treating rosacea, as well as providing some pampering and relaxation. Facial appointment times run between 30-75 minutes depending on the treatment. If you’re unsure which facial is the right one for you, we recommend choosing the Amplify Signature and letting your practitioner know you have rosacea. The entire treatment will cater to your skin’s needs and be safe and effective.
