We all age, and the inevitable lines and wrinkles catch up to us…but this doesn’t mean you can’t turn back the hands of time with a little help from our skilled RN injectors. One of our most popular treatment for wrinkles in Thornton? Toxin!
Many things contribute to lines and wrinkles, one of the most common is repeated facial expressions. Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators (toxins) that works to temporarily reduce the movement of the muscle leading to a smoother appearance in your skin.
All appointments for Botox & Dysport in our Thornton medspa start with a consultation with one of our RN injectors where we talk about your concerns and goals and work together to design a treatment plan that you are comfortable with.

General Questions
-
Botox is an FDA approved neurotoxin protein that has gone through a purification process to render it safe to use in cosmetic and medical procedures. Botox is injected into the target muscles to temporarily block nerve impulses. This relaxes the muscles and does not allow them to contract thus providing a smoother and more refreshed appearance in the treated area like frown lines or crow’s feet.
-
Neuromodulators or neurotoxins are umbrella terms whereas, Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau, amongst others are brand names. They are all derived from the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, but differ slightly in formulation, purification, etc. They are all FDA approved for cosmetic use to treat dynamic lines and wrinkles.
-
They treat dynamic wrinkles (e.g., wrinkles that form with movement), jaw clenching, migraines, excessive sweating, and more.
-
Yes, Botox is FDA-approved and safe when administered by a trained professional. You should trust your injectables to an experienced, responsible, and certified injector. You’re paying for the experience, skill, and knowledge of your provider, not just the product.
Do your homework, look at reviews, ask questions. Your injector should be able to answer all of your questions and put you at ease before they come anywhere near you with a needle.
Side effects may include mild swelling, bruising, or temporary headache.
-
Results can appear in as little as 3-7 days, but the full effect of your treatment is seen at 14 days and lasts 3-4 months, depending on the individual and treatment area.
Treatment Process
-
A typical toxin injection appointment is scheduled for about 30-45 minutes. We like our new clients to book an appointment for 45 minutes, this gives us time to get to know you a little better, even if you’ve had toxin before, so we can make sure we understand the results you’re looking for and welcome you to the Amplify family.
During the appointment we will answer any questions you might have, chat about your treatment goals, make recommendations on number of units and brand of toxin, etc. Once we are on the same page we move forward with the treatment.
If you’re unsure if toxin is the treatment for you, that’s ok! Schedule a consultation with one of our RNs and we’re happy to listen to your thoughts and make the best recommendations based on your skincare goals.
-
We use tiny insulin needles to inject the toxin. Unfortunately, there is no way around using a needle to administer the Botox, but most people describe it as a quick pinch and minimal discomfort.
-
We schedule returning toxin injection clients for 30 minutes and new toxin clients for 45 minutes to ensure that we have enough time to answer any questions and make sure no one feels rushed. Often, the appointment will not take the fully allotted time.
-
This is a hard question to answer in an FAQ section, but we get it, it’s annoying when the answer is something like, “We’ll tell you during your appointment.” Not super helpful, right? So many things go into deciding the number of units we recommend, here’s just a few: How strong the muscles are in the treated area, the look you’re going for (frozen vs still having some movement), your assigned gender at birth, the size of the area to be treated (do you have a large forehead or a small forehead), what areas you want treated….and so on…
Each brand of toxin is also FDA approved to only treat specific areas, so that’s why when you look at their websites they will only show you specific areas of treatment. Our injectors at Amplify have taken many advanced certification courses and have been instructed and certified to use toxin in off label areas like doing lip flips and Nefertiti neck lifts just to name a couple. This is why it really is hard to say without seeing your whole face how many units you might need.
Speaking in general terms the average number of units we tend to use in the more common areas of treatment are: 10-20 in the forehead, 12-20 in the frown lines (the 11s), 8-12 in each crow’s feet, and 4-6 for a lip flip. These are just averages, keep in mind some people require less and some require more, each person’s anatomy and beautiful face is unique and that’s why each treatment plan is fully customized to you.

Yes, Botox is often combined with other treatments for a more comprehensive rejuvenation plan.

No, you are not able to receive any toxin during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
-
Avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications, and strenuous exercise 24 hours before and after treatment to minimize bruising.
Results and Maintenance
-
Most people will usually start to notice some effects within 3-7 days, with full effects visible at 14 days.
-
All toxins are temporary treatments with most lasting 3-4 months. Some factors can affect the duration of treatment like your individual metabolism, the number of units you received, and the area treated, amongst others. We recommend coming back on a regular schedule of every 2.5 to 3.5 months to maintain your results.
-
Yes, Botox can help prevent wrinkles by reducing muscle movement over time. It’s this repeated muscle movement that makes creases in the skin that eventually turn into wrinkles. If you already have wrinkles, starting Botox and getting consistent treatments can help these wrinkles smooth out over time.
-
If you stop, your muscles will gradually regain movement, and wrinkles may return to their pre-treatment appearance but won’t worsen.
Cost and Insurance
-
At Amplify Aesthetics we offer both Botox Cosmetic and Dysport. Both cost $14 per unit.
-
No, Botox is not typically covered by insurance for cosmetic purposes, but it may sometimes be covered for medical conditions like migraines or excessive sweating. Amplify Aesthetics does not currently offer Botox for medical conditions or bill insurance for Botox treatments.
