Dermaplaning

A dermaplane is a simple exfoliating treatment that is quick and pain free. Using an exfoliating blade, dead and dry skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) is removed to reveal a brighter, smoother and more radiant complexion. Your skin will feel smoother, skincare products will absorb better and your makeup will look more flawless.

This treatment is beneficial for nearly all skin types and improves the look of acne scars, dull or dry skin, sunspots and other hyperpigmentation and can soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This treatment is completely safe during pregnancy.

FAQs

  • Most clients describe the sensation like a mild scraping, many say it’s actually relaxing and soothing. We know it sounds crazy, but many clients fall asleep during the treatment!

  • The dermaplane itself takes about 15-20 mins.

  • Every three to four weeks is a good interval. A dermaplane is an exfoliating treatment so you don’t want to do them too frequently as you can risk damaging your skin barrier.

  • They are both exfoliating treatments, but they use different tools. A dermaplane uses a sterile surgical scalpel to scrape the surface and a microderm uses a diamond tipped wand with suction to gently abrade the surface of your skin. A microderm does not remove peach fuzz.

Many of our clients like to alternate these treatments, doing a dermaplane one month and a microderm the next.

  • No. Dermaplaning does not affect the hair follicle or the hair growth at all. The tip of the hair can appear more blunt when growing back, rather than tapered if you’re used to waxing, this can give the appearance of a thicker hair, but it’s not possible to change the actual hair or follicle through dermaplaning.

  • Stop using retinol for a couple of days before, and come to your appointment with a clean face whenever possible.

  • Some people may feel a little more sensitive for a day or two so you should use gentle products at home until your skin feels back to normal, however the majority of people are fine to go back to their usual skincare routine. SPF is extra important after a dermaplane. We recommend waiting 24 hours before wearing makeup after a Dermaplane.

  • A dermaplane isn’t the best option for someone with active acne as there’s a risk of spreading bacteria and making the breakouts worse. If you aren’t sure if you’re a good candidate, you can book an appointment and we will chat when you arrive. We can make a recommendation for an alternate treatment if we feel that a dermaplane isn’t an appropriate treatment for you.
