Microdermabrasion

The Perfect Non-Invasive Treatment to Address Skin Concerns Related to Tone or Texture

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment that addresses skin concerns related to tone or texture—dullness, roughness, acne scars, sun damage, black heads, fine lines and wrinkles. Using a diamond tipped instrument with gentle suction your specialist will smooth away the outermost layer of dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter and a more even appearance without pain or discomfort. Some clients do have a small amount of redness that will be gone in a matter of hours.

Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis, the building blocks of plump, youthful looking skin. Over time this will improve skin density and increase elasticity.

This treatment is a favorite among our male clients and is also safe to receive during pregnancy.

FAQs

  • Microdermabrasion provides exfoliation to remove debris and dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This smooths the skin to make it softer, and more even in appearance.

Exfoliation speeds up cellular turnover, this is the process our skin naturally undergoes each month. Speeding up this process helps in the prevention of signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, etc.

  • Every three to four weeks is a good interval. A microderm is an exfoliating treatment so you don’t want to do them too frequently as you can risk damaging your skin barrier.

  • They are both exfoliating treatments, but they use different tools. A dermaplane uses a sterile surgical scalpel to scrape the surface and a microderm uses a diamond tipped wand with suction to gently abrade the surface of your skin. A microderm does not remove peach fuzz.

Many of our clients like to alternate these treatments, doing a microderm one month and a dermaplane the next.

  • Stop using retinol for a couple of days before, and come to your appointment with a clean face whenever possible.

  • Some people may feel a little more sensitive for a day or two so you should use gentle products at home until your skin feels back to normal, however the majority of people are fine to go back to their usual skincare routine. SPF is extra important after a microderm. It’s fine to wear makeup after a microderm.

  • A microderm isn’t the best option for someone with active acne as there’s a risk of spreading bacteria and making the breakouts worse. If you aren’t sure if you’re a good candidate, you can book an appointment and we will chat when you arrive. We can make a recommendation for an alternate treatment if we feel that a microderm isn’t an appropriate treatment for you.

  • Yes! We love to do a lite chemical peel after a microderm to really boost the effects and target any specific concerns you might have with your skin, or just give you wonderful glow!
