Morpheus8

Pre-Treatment Instructions

General Info

  • Clients with a Fitzpatrick skin type IV-VI are required to use a pre-treatment melanin inhibitor regimen for a minimum of two weeks to prep the skin before treatment, this is to minimize the risk of hypo- or hyperpigmentation. This will be discussed during your consult to answer any questions.

  • Clients with Fitzpatrick skin types I-III are encouraged to use this regimen as well, especially clients wishing to treat hyperpigmentation or that have melasma.

7 Days Before Treatment

  • Stop taking NSAIDS such as aspirin and ibuprofen one week prior to treatment. This type of drug can interfere with normal blood clotting and can make you more likely to bruise.

    • If you take aspirin for a medical reason, consult your doctor before stopping it. Typically, it’s fine to receive a Morpheus8 treatment when taking aspirin, you will just have an increased risk of bruising.

  • Avoid taking vitamin E, ginseng, and fish oil to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

  • If you are on blood thinners do not stop them without talking to your doctor. Typically, it’s fine to receive a Morpheus8 treatment when taking them, you will just have an increased risk of bruising.

  • Discontinue using retinol, salicylic acids, tretinoins, AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), benzoyl peroxide and other topical products that are considered “actives”. If you’re unsure about using a product, call us, we’ll be happy to advise.

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning, this includes the use of tanning beds or self-tanning products. Morpheus8 cannot be done on sunburned skin.

  • If you have a history of frequent cold sores, it’s a good idea to take an anti-viral for three days. One day before, the day of, and one day after your treatment. Contact your prescriber for this. If you don’t have one, call us and we will help.

Day of Treatment

  • Shower as usual, but do not apply anything to the area to be treated (lotions, etc.) Do not wear any makeup on the day of treatment, and no necklaces or earrings if your treatment is on your face.

  • Hair in the area to be treated should be cleanly shaved.

Aftercare Instructions

What to expect after your treatment

  • After the treatment your skin will look and feel like you have a mild to moderate sunburn and may feel warm and tight. You can cool your skin with a fan, AC, or a cool compress (use a clean washcloth). No ice packs please. The heat should dissipate over the next several hours. It is normal to be red and even a little swollen for a few days.

  • You may see small red dots in the treated area, occasionally they may develop tiny scabs over the next few days, these can appear in a grid pattern. This is normal. Don’t pick at them, that can lead to hyperpigmentation or scarring. These marks typically heal on the face within a few days but they take longer on the neck, sometimes up to a week to 10 days.

  • Bruising can happen, especially if the area above the eyes was treated. Using a cool compress and taking oral arnica tablets can help them heal more quickly. After 48 hours, you may apply topical arnica gel to the area.

Aftercare

  • Expect 48-72 hours of “social downtime.”  This means that nothing can go on your skin aside from the aftercare products provided. No makeup or sunscreen. Avoid sun exposure during this time.

  • Be gentle to the treated area. Don’t scratch or pick at your skin. Use the products in the aftercare kit as directed. Only touch your skin with clean hands.

  • Clean glasses, your cell phone, and anything else that regularly touches your face with rubbing alcohol before using them.

  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase. It can help to sleep propped up on a couple of pillows for a night or two to minimize bruising and swelling. Try not to sleep face down if possible.

  • Avoid hot tubs, saunas, pools, exercise, or strenuous activity for 48 hours. Showering is fine.

  • After 72 hours you can wear makeup and sunscreen. We recommend a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30. We have several in the spa we recommend if you need one. Being diligent with sunscreen is paramount to maintaining your results. Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every two hours. We have a brush on mineral powder sunscreen that is great for reapplying throughout the day.

    • Yes, you do need to apply sunscreen even if you’re inside. Remember – If there is enough UV light for plants to grow inside, there is enough UV light to be damaging your skin!

  • After seven days you may return to your usual skincare routine.
